Rheumatology Workforce Study
The American College of Rheumatology contracted with the Academy for Academic Leadership (AAL) to conduct the 2015 Rheumatology Workforce Study. This purpose of this workforce study was to describe the character and composition of the current rheumatology workforce, recognize demographic and employment trends, inform workforce and succession planning for the ACR/ARP to ensure appropriate access to care for patients with rheumatic diseases, identify potential paths for the evolution of workforce supply and demand and their associated implications, and more. Prevalence Statistics
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention March 2017 Vital Signs announced data estimating that 54.4 million U.S. adults suffer from arthritis - equating to about 25% of the population. Arthritis is the leading cause of disability, and causes pain, aching, stiffness, and swelling of the joints. The most common types are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, lupus, and fibromyalgia.
