Consider posting operating hours of the watering point.
Post a sign to encourage handwashing, physical distancing, and use of masks.
Provide protective gloves for operators who disinfect commonly touched areas at watering points.
Provide 1) a handwashing station or alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol, 2) disinfectant wipesexternal icon and/or disinfectant spray from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) list of approved products for use against COVID-19 (EPA List Nexternal icon) and paper towels, and 3) a lined trash bin at each watering point.
Place visual cues such as taped or painted lines, rocks, stakes, or signs at the watering point to show where people should stand at least 6 feet from each other when waiting for water.
Consider providing masks for those without one.
Safely Use Community Watering Points
Practice physical distancing by getting water when fewer people are around. Do not gather in groups.
Remain in your vehicle if you do not need to get out to access the water.
Cover your mouth and nose with a mask if you need to get out of your vehicle.
Stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arms’ length) from other people.
Use disinfectant wipes or spray to clean commonly touched areas such as the watering point handle, spigot, hose, and card reader entry points.
Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before and after using the watering point. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
