I thought the same and was talked into seeing it by the universal nagging from everyone I know who'd seen it. Liked it so much I may watch it again.

I'm well versed in the genre.
and although this is not the Scariest movie, the Goriest movie, the highest production value, or the lowest b-movie retro chic production value, this movie is what is is, and does it sooooo perfectly, it is a deeply satisfying and enjoyable watch front to finish.
It's also an amazingly insightful movie, that made even myself sit back and reflect on my own thoughts and actions day to day.
don't pass this film up, it is guaranteed to become a classic that is talked about for decades to come.

Civil Rights meets Stepford Wives

All I can say is civil rights meets The Stepford Wives in a very unexpected way. I loved the lead character, Chris. Additionally, Katherine Keenan picks very interesting roles. I should have realized what was coming when I realized she was in the film. I was uncomfortable during the whole movie because of the inability of the white characters to speak to Chris as a man rather than a black man and treat him like a human being rather than a black human being.

Overrated, overhyped, over praised. The story is just stupid and far fetched, with little to no explanation making it hard to believe. I don’t know why it was/is so critically acclaimed or why it won ANY awards. It was boring, tedious, and ridiculous. It used pseudoscience fiction to create more mistrust and division. I wish I’d never bought it, even at $5.99 or wasted my time watching such a laughable premise that stretches suspension of disbelief to the breaking point.

I didn't expect to like this movie or be surprised by it, but I really liked it and was pleasantly surprised. There's enough humor to off-set the "horror" and the actors are great. The main character's TSA agent friend is an amazing touch - I can't imagine this movie without him. There's an optional ending, but I didn't watch it. I liked the original ending too much. Some people are avoiding "Get Out" because it's a "horror" movie, but it's worth seeing just because horror movies don't generally rate oscar nominations. What could have been a movie based racist stereotypes turns into so much more than that yet still still delivers uncomfortable truths. Humor and horror rule the day and Kaluuya is fantastic! Do yourself a favor and see this one.

Loved this. Rich with all the right elements: Suspense, sunny new love, jump out of your seat foreshadowing, racial tension with perfect balance of wit and truth/revelation. Nicely paced, packed with quiet double entendre, and just enough special effects to keep it all truly weird and suspenseful. I tuned in after hearing Daniel K say Stepford Wives (70's) inspired him - as well as muddled racial times we're living in. Enjoyed the alternate ending, but it was the wrong way to go. The chosen ending was just right for the tone for this movie. So much fun. Why couldn't the Stepford Wives remake have had such fresh relevance, and great characters and effects. Enjoy this smart, dark, mystery, and some great writing.

A FRIGHTENING CONCEPT, INDEED

I wanted to like this film, but I just couldn't manage it. Despite some good performances, and a few cute moments, this simply film didn't capture my willing suspension of disbelief. I found the premise ( you could call it The Stepford Negroes) prima facie illogical, unconvincingly developed, and thus not very believable. Might actually have played better without the heavy-handed, preachy racial angle. We've seen all that before in much better films (Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, In the Heat of the Night, Glory, and in both versions of Birth of a Nation, among others).
The aspect of the film that I found truly, TERRIFYING is what the subconscious might absorb and retain from the portrayal of a TSA pseudo-cop as clever and courageous, when in, in reality, they are quite the opposite. This is not "parody" or satire -- we don't see that at work here as a contradiction at all. The film is clearly directed at a young audience -- kids for whom routine violations of the 4th Amendment and pat-downs tantamount to sexual assault have become a "normalized" part of air travel. It makes me wonder whether the sole purpose of the throw-away story was to deliver this particular piece of propaganda in a way that would by-pass your conscious mind (being occupied with the superficial story) and embed itself in your unfiltering sub-conscious.
